A celebration of the excellent work being done in schools throughout Rochdale borough takes place next week.
The annual meeting of Excellence in Cities (EiC) in Rochdale will be a gala of achievement in the borough's schools over the past year. The event is at Rochdale town hall on Friday 14 October between 11am and 3pm.
Pupils from primary, secondary and special schools in the EiC partnership will be at the event to share their experiences and explain how their learning has changed for the better in recent years. Many more exciting and challenging opportunities are on offer from the various EiC strands. Our celebration will include:
- Work by Learning Mentors, who ensure that all pupils achieve their full potential
- Examples of good practice from the borough's two Education Action Zones in Middleton and Rochdale
- Displays and exhibits covering the work of Gifted and Talented pupils, and the push to 'Aim higher' to see more local pupils reaching higher education
- Exciting collaborative work from the borough's EiC primary schools
- The work of the Behaviour Improvement Team, including the Learning Support Units
- The use of groundbreaking technology at the City Learning Centres, based at Falinge Park High School and Middleton Technology School.
Excellence in Cities (EiC) is a targeted programme of support for schools in deprived areas of the country. It offers a real chance to transform urban education.
EiC provides resources and a coherent programme of strategies focused on teaching and learning, behaviour and attendance, and leadership. The programme is delivered locally by schools working in partnership with their local education authority.
Rochdale has benefited from EiC for the last four years with extremely positive outcomes not only as far as results are concerned but also in leading the way for major reforms in all aspects of teaching and learning and the quality of education offered to all our young people.
Results show that Rochdale has achieved and often surpassed its targets at all Key Stages making it one of the most improved Local Education Authorities in the country.
