The family of Darren Walmsley, who died in a collision on the M62, have paid tribute to him.
The family said: “Darren was a quiet, shy and unassuming man who was happiest in the company of his family and friends.
“He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of twenty five years, Noreen and a caring and proud father to his beloved daughter Melanie.
“His father John raised Darren and younger brother David when their mother passed away at an early age, making them a tight, supportive family unit.
“He was always willing to help those close to him and found time to do favours for anyone who needed them.
“Those who spent time with him found Darren to be good company, quick to smile and laugh. He will be sorely missed.”
Shortly after 9.30am on Monday 4 July 2016, police received a number of reports of a collision just before junction 21 of the M62.
Officers attended and found that a car travelling on the east-bound carriageway had been involved in a collision with a HGV.
The car then went through the central reservation onto the west-bound carriageway and collided with another car and two HGVs.
The driver, formally identified as 51-year-old Mr Walmsley, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man and a woman who were travelling in one of the other vehicles were taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.
