Woman in her 70s seriously injured after being struck by a car whilst crossing the road

A woman in her 70s has been hospitalised with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car as she was crossing the road.

The serious road traffic collision occurred on Burton Street in Middleton on Wednesday (2 October), where it is believed a Toyota Prius collided with the woman before she was rushed to hospital for urgent treatment.

A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by driving without due care and attention. He is currently in police custody.

Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have captured footage of the area in the moments leading up to the collision. This could include dashcam, mobile phone, or doorbell footage.
