New computer suite opened at Rochdale Boroughwide User Forum

Date published: 04 July 2016

A new computer suite has opened this week at Rochdale Boroughwide User Forum (RBUF).

Local charity RBUF provide support for people with mental health needs, as well as a safe environment, with their new computer suite giving people the opportunity to learn new skills, apply for jobs, produce CVs as well as sending emails, graphic design and using social media.

With the help of local businesses including United Carpets & Beds their volunteers have transformed a disused storage room into a useful community resource, with desktop and laptops.

Chief Executive Rachel Ginnelly said: “RBUF helps to ensure the needs of people with mental health issues and their carers are taken into account by those who provide services as well as offering practical support and opportunities here at our Rochdale base. This new IT suite is fabulous and is already proving a very popular addition to the centre.”

The centre, which opened two years ago is open four days a week, running regular events and activities, currently has 35 volunteers, with some already having moved on into full time employment.

Councillor Emsley took a tour of the centre before cutting the ribbon to officially open the computer suite.
