Daughter calls for closure of Ashbourne House Nursing Home in the midst of “neglect” allegations

Date published: 29 June 2016

The furious daughter of an elderly and vulnerable woman who she says was “neglected” at Ashbourne House Nursing Home has said she desperately wants to see the home closed down for good.

Sandra Grochowina’s 84-year-old mum died just days after being removed from the care of Ashbourne House in Middleton.

The death of her mother, Mabel McRonald, is now being investigated by police, after allegations relating to neglect.

A conference including Greater Manchester Police, Care Quality Commission (CQC), Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group (HMR CCG), was held in March to discuss the care of the elderly woman.

Ms Grochowina says that her mother was left in her own mess for hours with the buzzer out of reach. She also said that she found her mother with faeces under her finger nails and was left dehydrated.

She told Rochdale Online that she wants to see the home closed for good, to “protect” other residents.

Mrs McRonald was taken into care after being found unconscious at her home in Milnrow last summer. Ms Grochowina says that Ashbourne House was the only nursing home at the time which had an available bed.

Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group (HMR CCG) declined to comment as the matter is now a police investigation.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they are investigating

Ashbourne House could not be contacted for comment.
