To mark Volunteer’s Week, literacy charity, Beanstalk wanted to thank all of their volunteers in a special way because they help to give children the skills, confidence and imagination they need to succeed in life.
Beanstalk’s reading helpers each work with, on average, three children, seeing each child for two 30 minutes sessions a week, during term-time, for three whole terms. Together they read, play and talk, helping make reading fun and to build the child’s confidence.
“Our trained reading helpers truly do an amazing job in helping to transform the reading ability and confidence of children by helping them to reach their true potential” said Nick Parker, Beanstalk's Director of Operations and a trained reading helper.
Beanstalk has put together a short film in honour of their volunteers which shows all the fun things their volunteers get up to outside of their Beanstalk reading sessions and how anyone can volunteer with Beanstalk, regardless of age or interests.
