Car wash, coffee and cake for camping kit

Date published: 11 April 2016

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from the 8th Heywood Group, based at St Luke’s Scout Hut on Starkey Street, held a Car Wash, Coffee & Cake event on Sunday and raised £271 for camping equipment.

The group is looking to purchase tents, shelters and other camping equipment to give the children and young people (aged between six and 13) the opportunity to experience camping and more adventurous activities.

Hayden Chorlton, a Beaver Scout aged seven, said: “It’s been great fun today – we’ve helped serve tea and cake, and it was great chatting with everyone who came to see us.”

Steph Banks, Group Scout Leader, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who came along today to support this event. The money raised will give the young people more opportunities to get out there, camp and enjoy the adventure of Scouting.”

Scout Leader Malcolm Fallon added: “We’d also like to thank Tetrosyl for their kind donation of shampoo, air fresheners, sponges and buckets, Cleansweep UK for their jet-wash and Rothwell's Coaches for access to their water supply – it’s much appreciated.”

The groups next fundraising event will be a Cheese & Wine evening. If any local companies can help with donations, please contact Beaver Leader Leanne Chorlton on 07929 848 136.

Scouting offers challenge and adventure to young people and adults across the UK helping them fulfil their potential by working in teams, learning by doing and thinking for themselves. People of every background are given the chance to stretch themselves, learn new skills and make life long friends.
