Date published: 09 June 2005

Detectives in Middleton are appealing for witnesses after a man was threatened with a knife and his car was stolen on Monday 6 June 2005.

At around 6.30pm a man was sitting in the driver's seat of a blue Vauxhall Corsa on Stanycliffe Lane in Middleton when a man approached the vehicle and got into the passenger side. The man threatened the driver with a knife and told him to get out of the car. The driver then got out of the car and a second man got into the driver seat and drove the car away towards Boreshaw Road.

The first man is described as white, 20-25 years old, 5'7''-5'8'' tall and of stocky build. He had blonde / ginger hair and was wearing a dark blue and orange jacket. The knife he was carrying was described as a large kitchen knife.

The second man is described as white, 6'0''-6'1'' tall and of stocky build. He had close cropped, shaven hair and was wearing a grey hooded top with red stripes on the sleeves. Approximately 20 minutes later, at 6.50pm, two men matching this description approached a woman in a car on Stanycliffe Lane. The woman saw that one of them was carrying a knife and locked her car door before driving away.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who may have seen any men matching this description acting suspiciously in the area around this time, or who may have any further information, to contact Middleton CID on 0161 856 8745 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
