Shooting in Middleton

A 38-year-old man from Middleton is recovering in hospital this morning after he was shot in the back in the town last night, Wednesday 11 May 2005. The man attended the Royal Oldham Hospital at approximately 8:30pm last night, with a gunshot wound to his lower back. It is thought that the bullet penetrated approximately 12 inches into the victim's body. However, the man remains in a stable condition and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The incident is believed to have occurred at the junction of Boarshaw Road and Hereford Way in Middleton. The victim has described the offender as wearing a balaclava.
Police are appealing for witnesses and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information about it to contact CID at Rochdale on 0161 856 4646 or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
