Momentum lobbying against cuts

Date published: 24 February 2016

Momentum Rochdale, Heywood & Middleton will be lobbying outside the Town Hall at 5.00pm this evening (Wednesday 24 February) to express their concerns over the Council implementing cuts of £37m to services in Rochdale.

A spokesperson said: "The massive central grant reductions will have terrible consequences for many vulnerable groups in the Rochdale area.

"At a time of continuing austerity imposed by this Conservative government, plans to slash tax credits, freeze public sector pay and continuing to allow companies like Google, Boots and others get away with not paying their fair share of tax is creating mass anger amongst millions of people.

"This should mark the beginning of consultation about the next round of cuts and urge the Council to build public support by allowing a much wider public participation to take place with council sponsored debates through the borough to engage the public in this process.

"We hope that we can work with the Labour council to explain to the community that it is the Tories who have imposed these cuts across the country."
