Help Police Track Rochdale Rapist

Date published: 27 April 2005

Detectives in Middleton are appealing for witnesses after a 15-year-old girl was raped on Saturday 23 April. The girl left a house on Ennerdale Road in Middleton at approximately 10pm.

She walked in the direction of Coniston Drive but her memory after this is unclear. It is believed she was raped in an alleyway in this area but detectives have not been able to trace the exact location. The girl was then seen walking near to the shops on Wood Street where a passer-by stopped to help her.

An ambulance was called and paramedics contacted the police at approximately 11.15pm. The girl was taken to Booth Hill Hospital in Manchester where she was kept in for observation overnight. The only description detectives currently have of the attacker is that he was wearing a hooded top.

Detective Constable Kevin O'Regan said: "We really need to track down anyone who saw the victim on Saturday night. We especially need to hear from the person who called the ambulance for her on Wood Street.

"It is likely there were other people around at the time and anyone who has any information, however small, should call us. We need to establish exactly what happened and any information we receive could be vital.

"Anyone who has any information should contact detectives at Middleton on 0161 856 8753 or 856 1976. Alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
