Eight-year-old Amelia Harrison donating her hair to charity

Date published: 06 January 2016

Eight-year-old Amelia Harrison, from Milnrow, is planning to cut her hair and donate it to the Little Princess Trust charity, which uses the donated hair to provide real hair wigs to boys and girls who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Amelia decided on the fundraising after hearing of a fellow school pupil who planning on doing something similar.

Speaking to Rochdale Online, her mum, Laura Harrison, said: “She just came home from school one day and told me about this girl who was shaving her head for charity. She said she was really brave for doing that and she couldn’t shave her head but what if she cut her hair and gave it to charity.

“We read online that it costs around £350 to make the wig so that is what she wants to raise as well as donating her hair. I only started telling people a few days ago and she has already raised half of the target, but she is determined to reach £350.”

Amelia will be having her hair cut on 29 January.

“We are just really proud of her that she has had this idea on her own and has done it all off her own back. Everyone who knows Amelia knows that she has only ever had her cut about three times in her life and it has taken her a while to grow it, so I was surprised when she said she wanted to cut it.

“She is a very kind-hearted little girl who has grown up all of a sudden and I am just really proud of her.”
