Amanda Cooper - A Business By Design

Date published: 08 September 2004

Just over a year ago, when Amanda Cooper had to leave her job down South to return home to Rochdale to help a sick relative, it catapulted her into a new life. Initially she looked for a local job using her experience and skills in graphic and website design, but wasn’t happy with what employers had to offer.

“I was confident I could do better and decided that, although I hadn't planned it to be so soon, I would start up on my own. I went to see Barbara at Women's Enterprise and haven’t looked back since.” Although it’s been harder than she anticipated, business is now going even better than she hoped and she has plans to expand into Oldham by providing an Internet service similar to Rochdale Online.

As well as overcoming obstacles like having her car broken into and her computer breaking down, Amanda has been surprised by the amount of time she has to spend networking and making contacts. However she’s found this aspect of business rewarding and satisfying and is now planning to turn it to her own, and others’ advantage by offering a free marketing consultation to prospective customers.

Amanda will spend time with new entrepreneurs discussing their ideas and then presenting them with a list of services, which they can buy or not as they please. If you would like to know more about this offer Amanda can be contacted at Take One Design, 4 Field Road, Rochdale, OL16 4AZ. Phone 07816 013120. Amanda is a graduate of the NES scheme.
