Milkstone Area Businesses Association (MARA) held its first Annual General Meeting on Friday 24 July at Castlemere Community Centre.

A presentation was made by representatives of a local bank.

Members unanimously adopted the constitution and the proposed amendments, defined the geographical area which which it will operate and elected the following office bearers:

• Chairman: M Tayub of Chunky Chicken
• Vice Chairman: Amir Nazir, Asia Restaurant
• Secretary: Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, Castlemere Community Centre Enterprise Ltd
• Joint Secretary: Hassan Ansar, Active Law
• Treasurer: M Ansari, Virgo Travel and Laundrette 
• Joint Treasurer: Nawaz Ahmed, Naz Jewellers

The Chairman thanked everyone and said: "The purpose of setting up the organisation is to bring all businesses together to deal with issues affecting the businesses in the area, provide a platform to share good practices, improve the physical and economical improvement and work with councillors, council staff, organisations, the Government, regional and national businesses and organisations."
