Global Switchgear Win Race To M.O.D Contract

Date published: 10 May 2004

Rochdale member Global Switchgear Services Limited have beaten a number of high-profile competitors, including Rolls Royce Marine Electrical Systems Ltd, to win a significant part of a multi-million pound Ministry of Defence contract.

The firm, based at the Generation Centre in Rochdale will work on electrical generators on two Royal Navy support ships.

The nature of the firm’s business sees them transport their team of engineers around the world to carry out modifications, testing, installation and commissioning of medium to high voltage switchgear, with many contracts completed on oil platforms and pipelines.

Technical Director Robert Neuman is delighted that the firm have been awarded this contract, which is not the first yet one of the biggest with the Ministry of Defence:

”We were awarded the contract in recognition of the service and support that we have provided to the MoD over the previous years, during which many major refits have been undertaken on their vessels.”
