Local Internet Firm Tops National Survey

Date published: 06 May 2004

Local company Zen Internet has come top in a nationwide survey of firms providing businesses and homes with high-speed broadband Internet access.

The ADSLguide rated Britain’s Internet service providers (ISPs) after testing the access speeds they offer customers. Zen Internet, based in Rochdale, left slow-lane rivals such as BT Openworld, AOL, Freeserve and Virgin trailing behind and was ranked the UK’s fastest ISP.

“Customers depend on high speed Internet access when downloading large email attachments, Web pages, software as well as audio and video applications,” said Richard Tang, managing director, Zen Internet

“We have made significant investment in our technology infrastructure and technical teams. It is great to see that our customers are now seeing the benefit of this by being able to download materials from the Internet faster than ever before.”

Zen Internet supplies a broad range of high speed, always-on Internet services to homes and business throughout the UK. Among its customers are major businesses including Sony, Umbro, Balfour Beatty and the local indie band Inspiral Carpets.

The company’s top place in the ADSLguide is the latest in a string of prestigious accolades that have recognised its success. Zen Internet recently received a place in the top 50 of The Sunday Times Tech Track 100 that lists Britain’s most dynamic unquoted companies.

And it also received a top ten place in Deloitte & Touche’s annual Technology Fast 50 Awards. These awards track the growth of technology companies in seven regions across the UK and Ireland and recognise leaders in the telecommunications, hardware, software and biotechnology industries.
