Lesley Todhunter, a dentist living in Whitworth, became the new President of Business and Professional Women Rochdale at the club's AGM in January.
Lesley joined BPW 10 years ago with the aim of making new friends. She says "By participating actively in the club I have learned new skills and improved others, like public speaking".
BPW is an ideal place for women to come and learn the skills required to help them to reach their full potential in the workplace. Training nights are always great fun and you can practice your newly acquired skills in a safe environment.
Guests are always welcome at the club's meetings, held the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at the Norton Grange Hotel. The first event of the year will be an International Night in February when members meet to celebrate the organisation's worldwide links. This year's event features the culture and the food of Malaysia with a "typical " buffet followed by a talk and a demo on how to wear a sarong successfully!
In April, members will be travelling to BPW's national conference in Huntingdon to hear some inspirational and entertaining speakers; meet old and new friends from around the country and generally have a good time. The club will also be asking for the conference's backing for a motion on free prescriptions for asthma suffers. This is being proposed to support the campaign of a Rochdale woman on this issue.
