Ex Rochdale Football Club player and recently retired chairman of the Professional Footballers Association, Richard Jobson, opened a new restaurant in Littleborough, The Waterside, on Friday 3 October. Richard and invited guests enjoyed a champagne reception with canapés and entertainment provided by Wardle Brass Band.
Lisa Holt and her partner, Waterside chef Kris Groom, have spent the past twelve months refurbishing the pub and transforming it into a fifty seat restaurant with a Mediterranean theme, including decking at the rear for dining ‘al fresco’ - at the canal-side.
Lisa said, “When I heard that the owners wanted to sell I thought it would be a great opportunity, right next to the canal. The first thing we did was to strip the pub completely, even knocking down the interior walls. We had to hire a skip before the builders came, as the pub had been left with all it’s fittings intact, including beer mats still on the tables!”
With the transformation complete and the opening night in full swing, Lisa took time out to say: “I am really pleased that things have finally come together, the guests tonight are those who have helped me; friends, family and people who have worked on the project. It’s been really hard work and next time I would definitely get someone to manage the project for me. The hardest thing was finding the right people to work on the building, but I was lucky enough to find a brilliant team for the final three months. Balancing the project with my family life was also hard but it’s all been worth it in the end.”
Lisa aims to get a good name for the restaurant by providing an excellent product and service and she then intends to expand the business.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner everyday except Monday.
