£5,000 donation to help volunteer transport project

Date published: 18 March 2013

Parvez Alam of Worldwide Cash & Carry, Rochdale, presented Rochdale Community Transport with a cheque for £5,000. This generous donation will help launch Rochdale Community Cars – a new service provided for Rochdale residents who find public transport hard to use. The door-to-door service will be provided by trained volunteers.

RCT Operations Director Sohail Ahmad JP also announced that RCT had been awarded a grant of £9,240 from the European Social Fund saying: “RCT has been successful in securing ESF funding to run a 24 week training/work experience programme for 25 volunteers. This is great for RCT as it will help us provide local people with new skills and, with the award of some recent new contracts; we have lots of opportunities for drivers too.”

Mushtaq Ahmed, RCT Chairman, said: “This generous donation from Worldwide Cash & Carry and the ESF will really help RCT. We’ll be using it to add to the ESF Funding to develop our volunteer programmes including the RCT Out & About Travel Training programme. We would like to thank all our funders and donors, past and present, for their support of RCT - a vital local community service.”

RCT presented a Plaque to Barry Mackleston for his services to Rochdale, Middleton and Heywood residents for being champion for transport for elderly people.

Ed Kelly was presented with a plaque from Rochdale CTand Deeplish CC as a thank you for his dedicated services to the Borough’s young people.
