EU regulations cost more than £700 million
Date published: 29 January 2013
Philip Griffiths, North West Chairman, UK Independence Party has congratulated the MP who uncovered figures showing that 422 British regulations have been passed since 2010 because of the EU.
Mr Griffiths said: "These have cost businesses and taxpayers more than £700 million. It's actually quite hard to get your head around such huge figures but if was translated into numbers of teachers, nurses, doctors, policemen it would put it into real perspective.
"This red tape is binding the hands of business owners, particularly the small and medium sized enterprises, and it needs to be stopped. Pronto. Sadly we all know that isn't going to happen any time soon. We're in the EU and have to kowtow to our masters.
"I don't know about you but to my mind that is in intolerable situation. Re-negotiating with Brussels is unlikely to improve matters and the only solution is withdrawal."
