Date published: 06 December 2012

Hanson Springs has just announced that it is to take over the former DHL site, Transpennine Rochdale, close to the A627(M) exit as part of its expansion plans. The 90,000 sq ft facility, standing on a 7 acre site was acquired for the company by local surveyors, Barton Kendal.

The Company is gearing up for growth as they invest in a third facility on Gorrells Way and plan to invest approx £5m in the new premises and machinery, they also have plans to increase their workforce by 50 new jobs and will be recruiting apprentices directly to the company. Rochdale Development Agency assisted the company through the relocation process and access to finance.

Steve Barton of Barton Kendal said: “We are delighted to have represented Hanson Springs in the search and acquisition of new premises and it is a privilege to be a small part of a great Rochdale manufacturing success story”.

Hanson is a high-tech, global company and air-freights it products around the word on a daily basis. It also operates a distribution site in Houston, Texas and a European sales office in Milan.

Hanson Springs are specialist spring suppliers to the Global Process Industry. They have a diverse customer base with their springs being used in critical safety systems in Oil Exploration, Refining, Transporation and Power Generation. The space provided by the new premises will allow the Company to expand its current product lines and develop new products to service the challenges involved in new oil exploration and power generation technologies. The company generates about 80% of its turnover from exports predominatly to Europe, the USA, and increasingly the developing economies. In addition the company has a warehousing and production facility in Dallas, USA and a sales office in Milan, Italy.

Around 100 staff will move to the new industrial unit, which was previously occupied by parcels company DHL.

John Hanson, Hanson Springs said: “Having established in 1963 we are now entering our 50th Year, hopefully today will be one of the 'significant' days we can look back on. We wanted somewhere convenient for our existing staff, staff we want to keep. I know it’s been tough for some manufacturers, but for us 2011 was a good year with a number of strong projects coming forward.”

John Hudson CEO Rochdale Development Agency said: "We are proud of having such a diverse manufacturing base in Rochdale, Hanson Springs are just reaching a 50 year milestone and we recognise the value of having manufacturing companies survive and thrive within our borough and to be here to assist with their relocation and growth plans."
