Challenging Times: Chamber and Atradius Tackle Changes In UK Economy

Date published: 19 November 2012

Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with leading international trade credit insurer, Atradius, to host a seminar on the challenges and changes in the UK economy.

Designed specifically for managing directors and finance directors, the ‘Action for Business’ seminar, taking place on 4 December, will examine some of the risks and opportunities for businesses, and share valuable information on the economic outlook to assist in the strategic planning process.

Expert speakers on the day include Dr Brian Sloan, Chief Economist at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, and Michael Thomas, Senior Manager of Special Risk Management at Salford-based Atradius. Brian will present an economic overview of business in the North West within the context of national and international economic developments. He will also discuss the Chamber’s stance on UK Government policy ahead of the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement to be delivered the following day.

Commenting on the event, Michael Thomas, Senior Manager of Special Risk Management at Atradius, said: “At Atradius we are in a unique position – we manage risk across all sectors of the UK economy and in doing so gather extensive information so that our clients may benefit from our intelligence and protect their business in the process.

“This is a great opportunity for us to share some of our findings – UK trends, forecasts and evidence gleaned from some of the businesses we work with, particularly retailers. At present we are covering 63,000 British retailers and have helped many of these to weather the economic storm.”

The Chamber’s Dr Brian Sloan added: “The last couple of years have been very uncertain for businesses, and, even though the country is technically out of recession, many still feel apprehensive about the future. This seminar will give business leaders the ammunition to be able to consider their company’s strategic direction in 2013 and beyond.”
