The Rate Debate
Over the last few weeks we have heard from a number of members expressing their concern and frustration over the recent announcement from government about the delay in the next rate revaluation until 2017. We have in the past highlighted major concerns over several issues around business rates, including this year’s inflation busting 5.6% increase. Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk recently secured a debate in Westminster on this issue.

Police Warning
Greater Manchester Police has been made aware of a number of scams, whereby publications claiming to be working on behalf of the police have been contacting businesses and trying to sell advertising. Greater Manchester Police has stressed that it does not work with any publications. If you are approached by advertisers claiming to be representing the police, do not hand over any money and instead take their details and contact Greater Manchester Police by phoning 101.

What's Your View?
The University of Manchester is hosting an event with The Foundation for Science and Technology focusing on innovation in medium sized companies. The Foundation aims to influence policy on science, technology and innovation with balanced evidence and links parliamentarians with an interest in science to key UK scientists and research councils. Richard Burslem, the Chair of the Chamber's Engineering and Manufacturing Sector Council, will be speaking on behalf of our members in this sector. Richard would like to learn more about how our engineering and manufacturing businesses feel about science, technology and innovation, so that he can fully represent your views to this important and influential group.
