Date published: 07 November 2012

Rebecca Schofield, founder of Walk-Right Podiatry and Chiropody on Drake Street ’walked away’ with the prestigious Businesswoman of the Year award at the Rochdale Business Awards.

Rebecca used to work as a podiatrist in the NHS with Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale PCT but took the plunge into opening up her own business just over 5 years ago. With the help of family and friends and colleagues, she has been able to build up a successful practice and this has resulted in her being in a position to employ additional staff, including a podiatrist who was returning to practice after several years out of the profession.

Together with her team, Rebecca deals with a range of conditions including fungal infection and those arising from diabetes, gout and other conditions as well as offering toe-nail surgery, biomechanics and orthotics.

Speaking to Rochdale Online, Rebecca said she was “delighted” with her success and said that it due to hard work and long hours. Like several of the other winners, she said that how Rochdale had such a “diverse and thriving” business sector and this was very evident at the ceremony and reflected in the nominations.

She looked forward to the Metrolink opening next year and said that she felt it was a very welcome step in the right direction for Drake Street businesses.
