Payroll changes
Date published: 20 April 2012
In advance of the Government introducing auto-enrolment for workplace pensions from October (for the largest corporations) and Universal Credit’s introduction in 2013, HMRC is currently trialling a new system known as Real Time Information (RTI).
This will involve businesses sending their PAYE and NI returns to HMRC in real time, at the time the payroll is run, instead of annually as now. Only a small number of pilots are currently in place, but HMRC wants to increase this to 150,000 by November.
