Car dealership moving to make way for regeneration

Date published: 25 November 2011

Pentagon Vauxhall in Rochdale is relocating to Queensway after the Council agreed terms with the dealership for the acquisition of their current property on John Street.

The current Pentagon site was identified as a key acquisition in the comprehensive regeneration of Rochdale town centre and is required in order to bring forward the shopping and leisure scheme proposed by Genr8 in conjunction with Kajima.

The dealership will be relocated to the former Mitsubishi premises on Queensway.

Nearly all the existing jobs at Pentagon will be safeguarded by being transferred to the Queensway premises or to nearby depots in Chadderton and Oldham.

Trevor Reeve, Pentagon Chairman, said: “We are delighted to still be in Rochdale. Since we came to the Town in 2004 we have built strong relationships with our customers here, and this new opportunity will really help us to exceed their expectations.”

Councillor Sultan Ali, Chair of Rochdale Township Committee, added: “This deal represents further progress with our plans to expand and improve Rochdale Town Centre.

“I am particularly pleased that we have been able to relocate the business elsewhere within the borough and wish the company every success in their new premises”.

Tony Hindley of Hindley Lawrence acted on behalf of Pentagon and Keppie Massie and Rochdale Development Agency acted on behalf of the Council.
