Zen Internet to raise funds for Boomerang

Date published: 03 November 2011

Employees at Zen Internet have chosen Boomerang, the multi sensory play centre in Bury as its chosen charity for the coming year.

Boomerang was founded in November 2007 by a group of parents and carers of disabled children in the Bury area. The Sensory Play Centre includes a Sensory room, a state-of-the-art interactive learning area and a Soft Play room that helps to develop skills including cause and effect together with colour and number recognition.

Finding places to take children to play who have various and complex learning difficulties was a challenge for many reasons including wheelchair access and noise. Boomerang provides a place for lesser able-bodies children to have fun and play together in an environment where they feel comfortable and safe.

Zen employees raised nearly £7,000 for last year’s charity, Dr Kershaw’s Hospice in Oldham. Lots of events were organised throughout the year offering a chance for everyone to get involved. In May a team of 44 employees ran the 10Km Bupa Great Manchester Run. It was the 8th year that Zen employees took part in the run to raise money for its chosen charity.

Employees also took part in their first ever online auction, raising a fantastic £2,000. There were a variety of prizes including a private flight with Managing Director, Richard Tang, from Blackpool airport for lunch overlooking Douglas Bay.

“Zen has its roots in the North West and as such we have a real passion for the local area, which is why we selected Boomerang as our chosen charity for this year. We are fully committed to our chosen charity to ensure of fundraising activities can make a real difference. Our first event was the Halloween Fun Day which was a great success. We will be continuing with our efforts throughout the year including once again the Great Manchester Run,” said Caroline Taylor, HR Manager and a Head of Zen’s Social and Charities Committee.

“We are so pleased that Zen has chosen Boomerang as its chosen charity for this year. Providing a place for lesser able-bodies children to have fun and play together in an environment where they feel comfortable and safe needs continuous investment and the centre would not be possible without the dedicated support from fundraisers like Zen,” said Emma Birkett, Boomerang.
