Bank of England says ‘Yes’ to Chamber’s QES

Date published: 06 December 2010

Rochdale businesses still have a few days left to complete Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce’s Quarterly Economic Survey (QES) and help to influence the Bank of England’s decision-making.

The QES, which takes three minutes to complete online, is open to businesses across Greater Manchester and allows people to register how their business is coping in the current climate. The results of the survey are sent directly to the Bank of England and are credited in its Quarterly Inflation Report – clear proof that the results influence the Bank of England’s decision-making when setting monetary policy.

Part of a national survey, it is the only one of its kind to give a local, regional and national perspective on the country’s economy. The survey closes on Friday 10th December and can be accessed by visiting the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce website: www.gmchamber.co.uk
Commenting on the QES, Dr Brian Sloan, Head of Business & Economic Policy at Greater Manchester Chamber, said: “The QES has been running for more than 20 years and is a widely respected national piece of research compiled by the Chambers of Commerce network. Businesses in Greater Manchester make the biggest contribution to this research and the more responses we get, the greater our voice when we are lobbying for improvements and change for businesses in Greater Manchester. The results of the survey will also be able to give an indication of how businesses of different sizes are coping, so whatever the size of your business, your response counts.”

In addition to the Greater Manchester results, Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce collates and analyses the QES responses for 16 accredited Chambers across the region. On average, approximately 5,300 businesses nationally, collectively employing more than 600,000 people, complete the survey each quarter.
