Workplace Cycle Challenge

Date published: 13 May 2010

Local businesses are being invited to take part in the Workplace Cycle Challenge which will encourage staff to rediscover the benefits of cycling.

The challenge is simple - businesses will compete to see who can get the highest number of people cycling, for just 10 minutes or more, from Monday 7 to Sunday 27 June 2010.

Participants will log their cycling online, with prizes for individuals and the teams that get the most people cycling – high street vouchers, cycling gear and much more!

It’s fun, free and with lots of prizes, support and assistance, there’s plenty of incentives for your staff to get involved. Bikes can even be brought to your workplace!

On Saturday 20 June CTC will be running a “Learn to ride” day for adults. Any employees are welcome to sign up free of charge.

On Thursday 24 June CTC are offering a free “Workplace Challenge Day” at Queen’s Park in Heywood. You and your staff are invited to go along and have a ride with CTC qualified instructors. CTC provide bikes and helmets for groups of up to 10 and can give your staff 30 minutes of gentle and sociable cycling in a beautiful traffic-free environment.

Joining the challenge is easy:

  1. Register online at www.gmworkplacechallenge.org.uk
  2. CTC will provide posters, flyers and cycling gear to hand out to staff.
  3. Staff cycle for 10 minutes or more and log their cycling online.
  4. CTC send out prizes.

Seamus Kelly, Rochdale Borough Council CTC Community Cycling Development Officer, said: "This exciting challenge is going to give cycling a big push in Greater Manchester, so register today and show your support for sustainable travel."
