Celebration for carpet firm

Date published: 10 April 2010

The staff at GSG Carpet Factory Shop in Ensor Mill, Queensway are celebrating their first year of business.

The firm marked the occasion this week with a visit from the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Keith Swift and a champagne reception.

Manager, Sue Benson is pleased that the carpet shop has reached its first birthday, she said: “The day was a great success with customers and suppliers meeting The Mayor of Rochdale for champagne and canapés.

The store holds a strict ‘local jobs for local people’ policy. They buy all their supplies from protective clothing to celebrate and tea and coffee from local suppliers.

Mrs Benson added: “It has been a hard twelve months; I am conscious that a lot of businesses have closed down and we all have to help one another."

Mayor Swift said: “It is really lovely to see people in a local company employing people from the local community doing so well despite the recession.

“I am sure they are looking forward to a bright future and I wish them all the best.”
