Dolly P relocates to Moss Street

Date published: 29 July 2017

After 21 years of business, Dolly P’s burger van has relocated to new premises on Moss Street, complete with a new menu.

Owner Heather Pomfret, who named her business after her mum, Dolores Pomfret, said: “Dolly P’s represents my beautiful mum, who died in December last year. She lent me the money in 1997 to start up, in her own words, ‘not another venture Heather'. She was amazing, beautiful and so supportive.”

Speaking about the move, she explained: “I was looking for a different direction in my life. I became very disillusioned with my job, after an arson attack. It was a very testing time.”

Heather continued: “However, try as I might to find a new vocation in life, I decided this is my job for life and new scenery was what was needed. I had been stood facing a wall for years and it was really getting me down. I was trading on Chichester Street in Rochdale, and although I had the loveliest, loyal customers and a fabulous pitch, I felt that I needed a change of direction to keep me enthusiastic.”

As chance would have it, Heather received a call asking if she was interested in the burger van on Moss Street.

She enthused: “Being like my mum, curiosity got the better of me, so after a long hard think, I bought it and hoped that the namesake would approve. The view is spectacular. I now look onto Sir Isaac Newton Way and the beautiful garden centre. The parking is fabulous and I've met some smashing new customers. Elderly people come from the garden centre and have a cup of tea and a butty and tell me all about their day; I'm truly in love with my job again.”

The new menu consists of discounts on Dolly’s chicken tower or Dolly’s breakfast burger, meal deals for children in the school holidays, and a packed lunch menu, ready to order in the morning and pick up before school. Heather will also offer a ‘butty’ each day that comes with a hot drink, and personally recommends the ‘hot chocolate with marshmallows’.

Heather concluded: “I hope this move will enable me to serve the lovely and hungry people of Rochdale for the next 21 years.”
