Rochdale’s own Botany Bay
Date published: 21 February 2005
An old Rochdale mill is being transformed into a working network system, where new start up businesses can operate under one roof. The ‘Botany Bay’ style system is underway at the Meadowcroft Mill in Bamford, Rochdale. It will include a variety of shops and stalls, which will come together to form The Urban Gallery, organised by the owner of Urban Sofa Designs, Tracy Powers.
Tracy said: “It’s a great opportunity for everyone to be under one roof, this place has a lot of potential and could be totally transformed. We have a variety of shops from sofa’s to beauty salons. It’s great to be able to do something like this in Rochdale”.
The businesses that are setting up in the mill include:
- Urban Sofa Design - a personalised sofa company
- Girl on the Hill – a hand crafted card store
- Class A Windows – windows and doors
- AAA Garden Makeovers – garden makeover company
- Beautiful U – beauty and aromatherapy salon
- Ceramics by Kalusaja – hand crafted ceramics stall
- The Picnic Company – exclusive delivery service including champagne and strawberries.
Bradley Ridgeway from Class A Windows and Doors said, “I’ve actually been set up at Meadowcroft Mill since October. Now with the Urban Gallery starting up, it’s a great opportunity to meet other local businesses, and help each other with networking etc”.
Amanda Sutherland from Girl on the Hill Card Design said, “Urban Gallery is a great idea, and a wonderful opportunity for us all”.
The Urban Gallery officially opens on Saturday 26 February 2005 at 10.00am.
