Although I grew up around Stockport, I have had a long connection with Rochdale through family connections and playing juniors Rugby in the 70’s & 80’s. I took a job in Heywood in 1993 and moved my family to Deeplish in 1994. We have been here ever since.

I have been with my wife, Diana, for 28 years. Diana works for the NHS as a training and information officer and we have two children. Our son, Jake, is 26 and works in IT and our daughter, Izzy, is 22 and is in her final year of a degree in mental health nursing.

Jake has already moved out and Izzy will be moving out soon – she says. Possibly to compensate, we have adopted several rescue cats. So far we have nine. Both Diana and I frequently help raise funds for and give practical support to the Rochdale RSPCA shelter.

I have worked in IT for the last 25 years in a variety of roles; currently I am a project manager for a web design company in Manchester. Working in IT has been good to me - I have had the chance to meet and work with some amazing people and to see quite a lot of the world. That said, I have had my fair share of more unusual jobs – trap puller at a clay pigeon shoot, radio presenter and a night club compare and DJ.

Since moving to Rochdale, I have become an ardent Rochdale AFC fan. In 2008/9 I completed a small personal milestone – attending every Dale game both home and away.  I was also lucky enough to work as a match day commentator on Dale games for Roch Valley Radio from 2010 – 2013 and contributed articles about Dale to several fanzine sites.

Aside of football, my great passion is music. Most weekends will involve seeing a live band. Ironically, I am not a gifted musician... I have been attempting to learn bass for ten years with limited success – yet still I persist.

I want to be a Councillor for Milkstone & Deeplish because I care passionately about my adopted home town. The potential of the place and its people is staggering. My firm belief is that the council and its councillors have a vital role to play in realising that potential.

My key areas of interest as a councillor will be:

Social care – with a specific emphasis on mental health care.

Housing – the provision of and access to affordable social housing for all who need it

Procurement – ensuring that when purchasing decisions are made by the council that local businesses get special consideration ahead of national and international companies.  The money is better spent here and will do more good here.
