A proud Northerner; I am married with two sons and seven grandchildren.

Following a 23 year military career which included active service in Kenya, Radfan Aden and Northern Ireland, I settled in Heywood in 1985 and quickly became involved with the local branch of Royal British Legion.

Whilst pursuing a civilian career as a Transport Manager for a large company, I also maintained my military links by enlisting into the Territorial Army. My links with TA lasted a further 21 years during which time I also became responsible for organizing participation of members at international events. During my time with Legion, I held various positions including Treasurer & Chair and was also the representative on the County Committee.

In 2008 I formed Heywood Veterans Association in order to continue offering some support to the local public. I also continued organising the Remembrance Parade.

Thanks to strong public support, the Veterans became a success and its reputation spread to outlying areas so we widened to become Lancashire Veterans Association (LVA). The work of the LVA included comfort parcels to local troops serving overseas, support to Veterans Food Bank, attendance at funerals and advice to veterans and families on a myriad of issues. I put forward the suggestion that Heywood should have a memorial to those who had died in conflicts since World War 2 and this was eventually dedicated in 2009.

I believe that this is the main responsibility of any local councillor to work in the best interest of the constituents and not of the party you represent. If selected for such a post, I would make myself readily available to all and would listen carefully to all requests/suggestions and give 100% to serving the people of West Heywood.

I am opposed to the massive 34% pay rises that both Labour and the Conservatives awarded themselves and will fight for local government reform in the borough that better reflects citizen’s circumstances.

Throughout my adult life I have travelled extensively all over the world and this has taught me the true meaning of democracy - listening to and acting upon the wishes of the 'ordinary man and woman in the street'.

My sole aim is to see a Heywood which truly reflects the desires and aspirations of its population. A welcoming town where everyone works together for the common good.
