Dear Resident,

Many people have asked me why I have given up the honour of being an Alderman of Rochdale, which was in recognition of “outstanding service to the borough”. It is to enable me to stand as a candidate, in this election as a protest at the local Labour leadership’s bare faced willingness to lie to the electorate.

I had the privilege of representing YOU on Rochdale Council from 2010 until 2015. During this time I helped in bringing about a number of improvements in our area. These include: The re-instatement of bus services, installation of improved street lighting, the removal of fly tipping, many recycling initiatives, the speedy eviction of illegally squatting travellers, securing grit boxes, support for the “20 is plenty” campaign to make our streets safe for children, the re-surfacing of roads and many more measures. This has been against a background when as one former Labour minister in 2010 said “There is no money left".

It takes real determination in such circumstances to achieve results. I like to think that given a further term, there is much more I could do for Healey.I cannot promise to wave a magic wand and bring about solutions to all the problems that face our ward. But I can promise that I will be vigilant in ensuring that Healey gets the funding it needs for the likes of roads, policing, green spaces and schools. I will continue to try my utmost to resolve all the issues which concern Healey residents.  I can be contacted as follows: Tel: 639291 Mobile: 07763 901051 e-mail: andrew.neilson7@ntlworld.com

Brexit

This election will not effect Brexit one way or another, but many people say they are entitled to know my opinion. My view is that those pressing for a second referendum are misguided. Let us suppose that there was a second referendum, and that remain won. That would not resolve the matter, those who want to leave would not disappear, they would press for a third referendum and so on and on. The only realistic approach is to make a success of Brexit

I am committed to our area

I first stood for election here in 1992, and I think that my persistence in standing, year after year, building support, before finally being elected 18 years later, indicates my commitment to our area. I certainly was not interested in overtures that were made for me to stand in a safe seat. In contrast, my Lib Dem opponent has sought to represent other areas, and seems more interested in becoming a councillor than he does in looking after our ward.

This is where I live, this is the area I want the best for, this is the ward I am committed to.I cannot guarantee instant results to all the problems of Healey, what I can guarantee though, is that I will resolutely continue to press Healey's case. Even Healey Labour councillor Shah Wazir, has said I will work hard for you. "Results before Politics" has been my watchword, in putting Healey Ward first. On May 3rd you will have the chance to give your verdict on who is most deserving of your support on local issues. I hope I have earned your trust.

With kind regards,

Andrew Neilson Conservative Candidate for Healey

TOGETHER, WE CAN WIN BACK HEALEY.
