I am honoured to have the privilege to stand as an independent candidate in the local elections on Thursday 3rd May.

I decided to stand in the elections this year to provide the residents with a candidate that is local and community orientated. I’m not just going to say I’m passionate about the area to secure votes or win your hearts. I’m genuinely passionate and work voluntarily in the community through various groups including Secretary of Middleton in Bloom, Chairperson of The Friends of Hopwood and many Greenbelt groups.

I feel you will agree you don’t have to be involved in a community group to know that litter, fly tipping and antisocial behaviour is a problem in Middleton. But I would like to work alongside the enforcement team to use more preventative techniques. I am also committed to working alongside Rochdale Youth Service to look at securing additional funding to provide more free activities. I feel rather than the young people being the problem, lets engage them to allow them to be part of the solution.

I will fight passionately to protect the Green Belt and green spaces. I can't promise to stop all developments as I might not be able to. I will promise to fiercely oppose any more developments that would bring destruction to our green fields of Middleton. We need to be delivering the houses on the brownfield sites, also the residents need to be consulted on where the section 106 funds are spent.

For too long Middleton has been sickened by the grip of the ruling Labour party. Now is the time for change. We need to be creating headlines for a positive reason, not due to our leaders lying under oath to an inquiry or making threats to voters if the votes don’t go their way. Where has the democracy gone? Long gone are the days of dictatorships. Why as voters are we still being dictated to?

The residents of Middleton need a council with more transparency and councillors that are honest, hardworking and genuine. Residents need to see their councillors all year not just prior to elections. They need a councillor that puts their needs/ issues before the political party, the residents are your employer they elected you now respect the resident.
