Milnrow & Newhey Ward
Address
16a Smith Hill
Milnrow

Those who know me in Milnrow & Newhey will know exactly why they should vote for me on May 3rd. I have been working alongside Cllrs Irene Davidson and Andy Kelly for almost 10 years now and have been taking action in the local community for even longer. I like to get involved and do things wherever I can. Whether it’s stewarding the carnival or cutting up fallen trees in the recent blizzards, to organising outdoor music events or getting gullies cleaned- I believe it’s best to lead by example.
I live on Smith Hill in Milnrow with my wife and two daughters, and I deeply care about the ward I have lived in since moving here as a boy. I love everything about the ward- its village feel, the countryside, the people who live here and the businesses, pubs and restaurants. It seems not everyone shares that view however.
I have been deeply upset and angered by the Council leaders threats this week to cut funding to our ward should we win- it has made me even more determined to do so on May 3rd.
Labour’s treatment of Milnrow & Newhey is at very best offensive to the hard working taxpayers here.
Dave’s commitments to you:
- I will not take the 34% pay rise and will fight to restructure member’s allowances to get rid of pointless jobs for the boys.
- I will make sure that Milnrow & Newhey gets its fair share of funding so we can get the basics right in our ward- repairing potholes, cleaning up grot spots, clamping down on dog fouling and making sure gullies and drains are cleared for example.
- I will challenge and oppose the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework plans to build in the green belt. I further promise to deliver an alternative housing and building proposal along with my fellow Lib Dems colleagues.
- I will continue to be active in community events such as the Carnival, events in the park, with Ellenroad Mill and with local churches.
- I will draw down much needed external grants for community and voluntary groups in the ward- like the £10,000 funding to restore St James’ war memorial we have applied for.
- I will be available, transparent and committed to serving Milnrow & Newhey, with regular advice surgeries and site visits, and I will deliver casework promptly and confidentially.
As the great grandson of the “Rochdale Thunderbolt” boxer Jock McAvoy, I know what it’s like to fight for something. The people of Milnrow and Newhey will have me in their corner!
Vote for Dave Bamford on 3rd May.
