I am proud to have served Littleborough Lakeside residents for the last four years and I am pleased to have been selected again as the Labour candidate for this local election.

As a resident of Littleborough for nearly 40 years, and Rochdale for over 50, I have raised my family here, been employed here and enjoyed life in this beautiful place.

I still believe it is important to have councillors that know their ward and the people in it. I knew both 4 years ago and now I know the people and the issues even better having worked hard serving the community to the best of my ability for those 4 years.

In 2015 I retired from Wardle Academy, after a fulfilling teaching career in various schools and institutions, to concentrate on my role as your Councillor. I bring broad and rich experience and a mature skill set to be of assistance to you.

Throughout this time I hope I have been a voice for you, the people of Littleborough, through participating in meetings and functions with local people and groups, listening to what the people of Littleborough are bothered about, passionate about and worried about then doing something about it!

Looking back at my ‘pitch’ in 2014 I wanted to make sure I have made a difference for you all.

Young people – funding has been allocated for improvements at Hare Hill Park using ideas from the young people themselves, some improvements have already been made, some are ongoing. Additional facilities are being installed in Smithy Bridge. There are improvements being made to the playing pitches at Littleborough Sports Centre and in Smithy Bridge to enable better usage of these assets. Listening to young people, who have the best ideas, and giving them support will be one of my priorities once again.

Community resources – I have worked hard to ensure we get funding: from the Council, Township and external funders. Local organisations: Hare Hill House, Hare Hill Park, LEAF, Oakenhoof, Friends of Hollingworth Lake, Friends of Littleborough Stations, Pennines in Bloom, Littleborough Canal Development Group, Littleborough Civic Trust, Pennines Business and Tourism Forum and others have benefitted from the proactive role I have played in making sure that Littleborough has a voice.

The Environment – I have worked hard to get improvements in your everyday lives: the toilet scheme, memorial benches, cleaning up memorials, tidying grot spots, clearing fly-tipping, extra litter bins and grit bins, graffiti removal, repairing walls, clearing grids and gullies, filling potholes and pavements, the list goes on and so will I, aiming to get the best services for the people of Littleborough.

In addition, I am now working with Northern Rail and Network Rail to improve the services and ensure our rail safety is a priority, car parking at Smithy Bridge Station is one of my priorities.

There are still many issues, I know, that need addressing but some things take a little longer than others, in times when resources are being cut it is difficult to do some things immediately. As the saying goes: the impossible we do at once, miracles take a little longer.

If you want to discuss any issues you have, ask me any questions, make suggestions or simply have a chat, I am always available on 07812 220430, via email janet.emsley@rochdale.gov.uk, or in person at our monthly surgeries: 1st Saturday of the month at United Reformed Church, Victoria Street & 3rd Saturday of the month at Smithy Bridge Library.

Just a couple of endorsements:

I'm supporting Janet because having worked in the local community she is aware of what is needed, has the ability to communicate and connect with people, is very approachable and always available.

Nick Andrews, Hare Hill House Project Champion

I have known Janet for many years now and have had the pleasure of working with her in many aspects of the community.

These include Friends of Hare Hill Park events, improvements and fun Royal British Legion events such as the poppy picnic and the commemoration service held in November, the Rushbearing celebrations held annually, The Rochdale 10k fun run, the various bee conservation projects that exist in Littleborough and individual issues She is proactive,  POSITIVE, a team player and works extraordinarily hard for the community as a Pennine Councillor.

Lisa Burke, Chair of LEAF and Friends of Hare hill Park

I will continue to be active for you.

I am available for you, I will listen, I will act, I will work hard for you.

I ask for your support in this local election.
