Mayfield's young A team were defeated by table topping Orrell St James.

The Wigan side are undefeated this season, but the Rochdale lads gave as good as they got, falling just short in a game that the scoreline flattered the victors.

Fielding six sixteen-year-olds, Mayfield had a man-of-the-match in the strong running and tackling Mark Biggins, and he was ably supported by John Foy and George Yewdale, amongst others.

Particularly impressive was young Kenny Rowlands, whose distribution from hooker was quick and intelligent and whose tireless effort in defence saw him complete in excess of 30 tackles in the Mayfield cause.
