Mayfield 16 - 28 Bury Broncos

Date published: 08 June 2015

A youthful Mayfield A Team looked to their 16-years-olds to fill a side depleted by injuries and prior engagements but fell short in a close entertaining game against a more experienced Bury Broncos outfit.

Mayfield had to defend pretty much for the first 20 minutes but their hard work and team spirit saw them weather the storm.

Mayfield oepned the scoring on their first completed set of six as hooker Kenny Rowlands dived over the line for the game’s first score.

Shortly afterwards Bury went over for a converted try.

Half time: Mayfield 4 - 6 Bury Broncos

Just after half time Mayfield crossed the whitewash again through James Percy and a conversion from Corey Watts to put Mayfield in the lead.

Indiscipline by Mayfield left them a man due to a penalty sin bining and Bury took fulladvantage running in three tries during the next 10 minutes.

Once back to their full complement Mayfield took the front foot and Eliot Scanlon-Wells took on the defensive line and put centre George Yewdale through a gap to score a converted try bringing Mayfield back to within six points of Bury.

Mayfield constantly battered the Broncos line - Jordan Strand put in James Percy and then Mark Nyland failed by inches to score.

Mayfield man-of-the-match, John Foy, came close after a mesmerising 20 metre run but was held up short of the whitewash.

Bury had the final say scoring a converted try in the dying seconds

Dave Harmer, A Team coach, said: "Our lads never gave up they fought for the full 80 minutes backing each other up, but we just couldn't convert the few really good chances we got but that will come through training over the next few sessions."
