Middleton comprehensively defeated by Heyside in T20

Date published: 02 June 2015

In the second T20 of the season the Middleton were comprehensively defeated by Heyside. There was little for the Moonrakers to cherish in this game, with Heyside posting a solid target of 165 for 8 and in return Middleton were only able to amass 107 off their twenty overs.

It was a much improved performance from Heyside who had been to Towncroft at the start of the month and lost.

Professional van Schelkwyk began Heyside’s innings with aggression to get the visitors off to a good start.

After van Schelkwyk had departed, Ryan Barnes began to pile on the runs finishing on 46, helped by Mark Barnes who got 36.

Zain Tahir was the pick of the Middleton bowlers and picked up three wickets, including that of the professional who was excellently caught out at deep mid-wicket by Rhys Tierney.

It was clear at the end of the first innings that Heyside had posted a good total.

As Middleton began the chase, professional Kemm was the stand out batsmen and as the wickets began to fall it was clear that he would have to occupy the crease if there was to be any chance of victory for the Moonrakers.

Kemm fought on despite seeing Walker, Jones and Tahir fall in quick succession. However, on 54 he was finally out and as he departed Middleton’s hopes of victory were slight.

Middleton finished on 107 for 9 and suffered the second defeat in the T20 competition.

Next weekend the T20 cup continues on Saturday as the first XI travel to Walsden, and on Sunday Middleton begin their Wood Cup campaign against Rochdale.
