Use us or lose us says Hornets Director

Date published: 05 June 2008

The competition for peoples’ money has never been so fierce and in the world of sport it’s becoming increasingly difficult to raise the revenue needed to keep smaller organisations alive.

But Rochdale Hornets are determined to continue with the proud tradition of rugby league in the town, which they started in 1871, and as one of the oldest clubs in the world they want to do everything they can to involve people in the sport as well as stay in business.

Commercial Director Karen Reynolds says: “Everyone’s tightening their belts but it’s at times like these that people need entertainment so here at Hornets we recognise that and are slashing our prices to deliver even better value for money. This Sunday, 8 June, we’re giving people the chance to come and see live sport for just £9, and better than that we’re offering kids to come in for a quid!

"The truth is that we need the kind of support that the town showed in Rochdale AFC’s recent promotion bid because if you don’t use us there’s every chance you could lose us and we don’t want that.

"Rochdale has suffered some negative media attention in the last couple of months and we want to say that there’s a lot to be proud of here in the town, and Hornets is definitely part of that.

"Even if you’ve never been to a rugby league game before and you’re a fan of live sport, don’t miss out this summer! The weather’s hit and miss and the telly’s not much better but you can still have a great time by bringing the whole family to what has to be the best value for money day out anywhere!”

Hornets play Blackpool Panthers this Sunday at Spotland Stadium, kick off 3pm.

Hornets members and full ticket paying adults can bring a child up to 14 years old for just £1, and for a limited time if you’re aged between 15 and 16 you can go along for a quid as well! (proof of age will be needed). Adults pay just £9 and card-carrying members get in for £7. Concessions (card carrying students and OAP’s) get in for £5 instead of the usual £8.

Karen Reynolds says: “We’re slashing our prices so that sports fans can get involved with the game we love! Rugby League - a family friendly affordable sport! So give us your support and keep rugby league alive in Rochdale!”
