Dale must carry on the momentum

Manager Keith Hill is keen to carry on the momentum created following the FA Cup win over Leeds United last weekend, but is quick to point out that the players are very much focused on this Saturday’s trip to Hartlepool United.

Speaking ahead of the match at Victoria Park, Hill said: “It’s very difficult to enjoy those [FA Cup] exploits too keenly - the most important game of the season is Hartlepool. Everybody will be looking and everybody will be asking whether or not we can respond in the same manner or was it just a one off against Leeds. But for me it wasn’t a one off, we’ve produced some marvellous football all season, we have won 50% of our games in all competitions and I don’t see any reason why we can’t do that for the remaining 22-25 games which are still left to play.

“The season has been really enjoyable so far and I believe that the Leeds game can promote even more success and confidence within the squad of players and from the fans. The supporters have been magnificent, the atmosphere that was generated against Leeds was special, so from that point of view to beat Leeds 2-0 was special on the day, but like I’ve said, the most important game of the season is Hartlepool away.

“You’ve got to try and carry on the momentum from the Leeds game. I hear people say you’ve got to warn against complacency, but my players aren’t complacent. The players are honest, they’re determined, they’re focused and there’s no confusion. We will 100% respect Hartlepool, they’re a good side, they play good football and there’s not a lot of difference between any team in this league, or the league above.”
