Hornets ladies reach semi-final

Date published: 06 January 2014

Rochdale Hornets Ladies team have reached the semi-final of the Challenge Cup in their first season after defeating York 20-14 in a close game.

With the score tied at 14-14 heading into the last ten minutes, Hornets were able to score a late try to secure a deserved win.

With that unexpected win putting her team through to the semis, club coach Terri Davey says her team don’t fear anyone in the next round of the draw.

“We’re happy to play anyone. We feel we can compete against any team we come up against.”

Hornets Ladies only formed a matter of months ago through a ten week 'sportivate' programme and have had an inconsistent fledgling league campaign to date, winning two and losing four of their six matches in the WRLA Premier League.

“We’re still a new team and the results don’t really match the performances yet,”  said Terri. “Still, we think we’re playing well and we’re happy with how we have played so far this year.”

The team were due to travel to play Whitworth this Sunday, but their opponents’ cup game versus Bradford was postponed last week, so the team’s next game is a tough trip to league leaders Batley on Sunday 19 January.
