Local success at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards

Date published: 12 November 2013

Jamie Kelly of Rochdale won the Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year and the Rochdale Company of Archers won Club of the Year at this year’s Greater Manchester Sports Awards.

Britain’s most successful swimmer, Olympic gold medallist, Rebecca Adlington presented the awards on Friday 8 November, at The Point, Emirates Old Trafford, offering words of wisdom on her own sporting successes and giving support to the finalists and winners.

Organised by Greater Manchester sports charity, GreaterSport, in partnership with National Leisure Apprenticeships, the awards have been held for 13 years to honour the achievements of people working in and playing sport.

Richard Saunders, CEO of GreaterSport, organisers of the event, said: “GreaterSport is proud to host these annual awards. These people make sport happen across our county, and without them and people like them, community sport would not be what it is.

“This event is our chance to recognise these people and thank them for all the hard work they put in to make our towns a healthier and happier place to live.”

Each nominee had already won their local level sports awards, before going through to the short list for the Greater Manchester-wide awards.
