Support Hornets

Date published: 02 November 2013

Following the sold out Rugby League World Cup fixture, Rugby League is back on the map in Rochdale and Hornets are appealing for the people of the borough to help them capitalise.

The 9,000 strong crowd loved what they saw and Hornets are encouraging them, and their friends, to call the club office to buy season tickets, memberships and sponsor the club.

Law Cup

Discussions with Oldham over a venue for the 2014 Law Cup have ground to a halt, as Hornets CEO Ryan Bradley explains: "With our season starting in February, I contacted Chris to explain that, following discussions with the coaches and board, we didn’t believe Whitebank in January was a viable option.

"We have had numerous issues there in our last visits, both in terms of playing surface, changing facilities and spectator facilities.

"We offered Spotland as a viable alternative, or asked if Oldham would like to play anywhere else, but Chris made it clear that unless we played at Whitebank the game wouldn’t be going ahead.

"We took the decision, with the backing of the board, players and coaching staff, that we would therefore not accept Oldham’s invitation to play the Law Cup this year.

"There is a members meeting shortly and if the members would like to propose a motion and vote on it accordingly, I would take that back to the players and the board."

A date for the next members meeting will be circulated shortly but in the meantime members can email their thoughts to info@hornetsrugbyleague.com

Signings Announced

Hornets has announced that the Wheatsheaf Centre will again, for the fifth year running,  be the club's major sponsor for 2014.

Enspec Power and Develop have also re-signed from last year as main sponsors, with GTM Electrical and Colour Copier renewing as a secondary sponsor.

TBD Associates, Howarth’s Building and Timber, SportStat and Safeguard are new names that will grace the Hornets playing kit in 2014.

Also gracing the kit will be the winners of the Hornets Kit Builder Draw, which was drawn at half time of the Hornets Vs Fiji match.

Over £1,200 was raised for the club and the lucky winners were Megan Tann, Hornets Ladies and John McCormack.

Watch the Hornets website for the launch of the 2014 playing shirts.

Hough Rewarded

Chris Hough has been rewarded for ten years of service to the professional game by being awarded a three month RFL testimonial.

'Houghy' is a cult hero at Spotland and has also had previous spells at Swinton and Doncaster.

A launch and closing dinner, golf day, benefit match and Hornets X-Factor have all been muted by the man himself as events he would like.

The initial application was made by the club but a testimonial committee must now be formed to run the events. Anyone interested in supporting can get in touch with the club.
