Sponsored walk to Accrington

Date published: 28 August 2013

The Dale Trust is running a sponsored walk to Accrington before Rochdale's game there on Saturday 21 September.

The aim of the walk is to raise funds for this year’s chosen charity – Rochdale Football In the Community.

The plan is to raise over £1,000 towards a van that can be used by Rochdale Football In the Community when they visit schools, organisations and community groups throughout the town.

Dale Trust spokesman, Martin Ashworth said: "We are hoping that as many Dale supporters as possible will join us for the walk, whether they are raising money or just fancy doing it socially. It is approximately fifteen miles as we head over Owd Betts.

"We last walked to Accrington in the 2009-10 season, when close to a hundred supporters walked with us raising over £15,000 in the process, and we were rewarded with a fantastic 4-2 victory that all but sealed promotion. The conditions were dreadful that day, but it didn’t spoil the fun for anyone who was involved.

"We will meet at the Ratcliffe Suite at 7:30am for light refreshments, before leaving at 8.00am and we hope to arrive at the Crown Pub at Accrington at approximately 2.00pm. There will be a brief pub stop along the way.

"Anyone wanting to take part should print and fill out the forms which have further details on the walk. These will also be available from the Trust desk. "
