Rugby: Mayfield preview

Date published: 18 July 2013

Mayfield NWML side face a massive task this weekend as they entertain premier division Halton Farnworth Hornets at the Mayfield Sports Centre in the North Western League Challenge Cup.

Hornets are having a bad patch having lost the last three games so will be looking to this game as a chance to rescue their season.

Dunc Simpson of Mayfield said: “They currently sit just below halfway in their division but let’s not forget the quality of the sides they are playing against every week

“We, on the other hand are in something of a purple patch. We have some fantastic players in the squad and selection will cause us some headaches.

"With the likes of Callum Marriott, Ieuan Higgs, the Percy brothers and Damian Corcoran we feel we can match anyone on our day, and we aim to make it our day.

“The weather will be a great leveller and the way the subs are used could turn out to be the difference in this game.

"We have worked especially hard in training and tried some new things so we could have a surprise or two up our sleeve.

“Whatever happens I know the lads will give 100% and we can’t ask for any more than that.

"So here’s to another great game of rugby league at Mayfield and we’ll see you there anyone who fancies a fantastic afternoon in the sun. “

Players and spectators are reminded that the Bikers’ Festival is on this weekend. So please use the small entrance at the back of the sticks on Chadwick Lane. Please park responsibly and do not block any body’s driveway near to the ground.
