Ashes to Ashes, Spotland to Milnrow!

Date published: 17 July 2013

The Rochdale Hornets players will look to emulate the success of the England cricket team when they take on the supporter’s team in the second annual Twenty Twenty cricket fixture on Sunday, sponsored by JW Lees and Alliance Maintenance Services.

The players were runaway winners in last year's fixture against 'The Swarm'- the Hornets' supporters team but this year the supporters have been in hard training, attending net sessions over the last eight weeks.

Team manager, member John Bramall commented: “We are definitely taking it more seriously this year. We have brought Mick Johnson out of retirement, and with assistant coach Dave Ramsbottom on our side, we should have the inside knowledge to take them down.”

The Ginger General, Paul Crook, who last year reached maximum runs, has been appointed captain and has brought in all rounder Langley and bowler Sutton, already winner at the golf day, to help see off the fight of the supporters.

Wickets are pitched at 2.00pm, and there is a fair, inflatable, barbecue and fully stocked bar to cater for families, cricket die hards and Hornets fans alike.

Rochdale Cobras under 9s will provide the half time entertainment with an exhibition rugby league match on the outfield and there will also be a raffle.

There are 100 days to go to the Rugby League World Cup andspectators can take  part in the #FindOurBalls competition.

Hidden somewhere at Milnrow CC will be 1 of 100 specially commissioned rugby balls which are being hidden nationwide.

All you have to do is find the ball to win two tickets to the Fiji vs Ireland Rugby League World Cup fixture, as well as the ball.
