Captain Crook rallying cricket team

The second annual Rochdale Hornets Twenty Twenty Cricket Challenge will take place on Sunday 21 July at Milnrow Cricket Club.

The players are the reigning champions and will this year be captained by The Ginger General, Paul Crook as they look to overcome a supporters team that has been training hard over the last few weeks.

Any supporters wishing to take to the field with the players can register their interest with the Hornets office, or go to practice on Thursday evenings, 7pm-8pm at Milnrow CC.

There will be plenty of fun and games for all the family as there are inflatables and a mini fairground for the children as well as a fully stocked bar for the adults.

Wheatsheaf Charity Ball

Rochdale Hornets main sponsor The Wheatsheaf Centre is holding their annual charity ball tonight (Saturday 13 July) at the Norton Grange.

The James Bond themed event will feature casino tables, three course dinner, a welcome and even Elvis!

This is a great chance for supporters to show thanks to Hornets sponsors; if you would like a ticket or two please email info@hornetsrugbyleague.com

Community

Things are very busy in the community as Community Manager Terri Davey is involved in various summer programmes.

This weekend will see Terri coach at Link4Life's Big Games Events in Middleton and Heywood.

The heritage archiving takes a break this week and next week the Hornets Ladies start training on Thursday evenings at Firgrove to allow rugby sessions for the Brownies and Guides to take place Wednesday evenings.

There are also regular weekly sessions over the summer at Sparth Community Centre and St Mary's Primary School (Langley) - full details on the Hornets website.

Chearleading and 'Herc Club' return on match days to entertain the children prior to the games - to get involved with any of the activities or for further details email terri.davey@hornetsrugbyleague.com

Jean Garside

Rochdale Hornets send their deepest sympathies to all of the Garside family, including ex player Brett, at the loss of Hornet stalwart Jean Garside.

Jean has been involved with Hornets down the years as a tea lady, kit lady, supporter and member, and will be sadly missed by all.

It was only a few weeks ago that Jean attended the pre-game hospitality as the club's guest and proudly displayed the 1922 Challenge Cup winners medal.

Jean will be sadly missed by all at Rochdale Hornets.

The club has not received any funeral details yet but please check the website for any further details.
